Chad Aschtgen, ND, FABNO
Dr. Aschtgen is a board certified expert in the field of naturopathic oncology who has helped thousands of patients since receiving his doctorate of naturopathic medicine from Bastyr University. He opened Seattle Integrative Oncology in 2008 and has built it into the region’s premier naturopathic oncology clinic operating from three locations – Seattle, Everett, and Olympia. Today, Seattle Integrative Oncology is Providence’s exclusive regional partner in the field of naturopathic oncology. We offer the only hospital-based, integrative cancer treatment program and the only naturopathic oncology residency in the state.
Dr. Aschtgen is a frequent lecturer and writer on the topic of naturopathic oncology. He has spoken at events hosted by The American Cancer Society, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA), Swedish Cancer Institute, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Providence Regional Cancer Partnership, the Puget Sound Oncology Nursing Society, Bastyr University, Gilda’s Club, Group Health/Kaiser Permanente and more.
He was a co-investigator of a study sponsored by the National Institute of Health (NIH) on outcomes of Breast Cancer patients who received integrative oncology treatments. Appointed by Governor Jay Inslee to the Washington State Department of Health Board of Naturopathy, Dr. Aschtgen helps shape policies that promote the delivery of quality healthcare to state residents as the chair of the Washington State Board of Naturopathy. He has also served on the Board of Examiners for the American Board of Naturopathic Oncology, and a member of several professional organizations. Dr. Aschtgen works closely with patients and their oncologists using vitamins, herbal medicines, mineral therapies, and nutrition to create custom plans that increase the efficacy of treatment, manage symptoms, and help patients reach their optimal health. Whether newly diagnosed, in active treatment, or a long-term survivor, those facing the difficulties of cancer have a great resource in Dr. Aschtgen.
Erica Joseph, ND, LAc, FABNO
Dr. Erica Joseph is a board-certified naturopathic oncologist (FABNO) and acupuncturist practicing at Seattle Integrative Oncology (SIO), where she completed a two-year oncology-based naturopathic residency program. She received her doctorate in naturopathic medicine, as well as a master’s degree in acupuncture, and a bachelor’s degree in psychology and biology from Bastyr University. Dr. Joseph currently sees patients in both private practice and hospital-based location, including the Providence Regional Cancer Partnership in Everett, where she helps lead the integrative cancer care program. The private practice of Dr. Joseph and her colleagues at Seattle Integrative Oncology proudly provides one of the few naturopathic oncology residencies in the Pacific Northwest and they are passionate about training the next generation of naturopathic oncologists.
Outside of her practice, Dr. Joseph has served as president of the Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians (OncANP) since 2021. She has also participated on the conference content committee for the OncANP. Dr. Joseph is also the House of Delegates representative for the OncANP for the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP). She also served on the American Board of Naturopathic Oncology (ABNO). She is a peer reviewer for the Journal of Integrative and Complimentary Medicine (JICM), and has been a contributor to the Natural Medicine Journal.
She has provided numerous presentations to support groups for clinics and organizations and is highly sought after in the Puget Sound region, including Cancer Lifeline, Swedish Cancer Institute, Kaiser and the University of Washington Medical Center. She has additionally spoken on topics related to integrative cancer care for the Puget Sound Oncology Nursing Society, grand rounds for Providence Hospital, as well as lectured at the Washington Association of Naturopathic Physicians (WANP) annual conference.
Jenna Bailey, ND, FABNO
Dr. Bailey received her bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and doctorate of naturopathic medicine from Bastyr University. She is also a graduate of the two-year Seattle Integrative Oncology residency program and is board certified. Jenna gives talks on naturopathic care and natural health at the Providence Regional Cancer Partnership’s Survivorship Series in Everett, as well as nutrition presentations at Providence Integrative Cancer Care in Lacey/Olympia. With her background in laboratory sciences and special interest in hematological cancers, Dr. Bailey combines a strong technical understanding of disease with her desire to care for patients. She believes in providing every patient with foundational treatment to make sure they are getting proper sleep, nutrients, vitamins, and hydration, while building a therapeutic relationship to treat the whole person.
Jessica Harrigan, ND, LAc
The newest member to the Seattle Integrative Oncology team in 2021, Jessica Harrigan has recently completed a two-year naturopathic oncology residency. Dr. Harrigan received her bachelor’s degree in biology with a focus in genetics and developmental biology from Arizona State University. She later earned her doctorate in naturopathic medicine and masters in acupuncture and oriental medicine from Bastyr University. Throughout undergraduate and graduate school, she worked in the fitness community and remains passionate about incorporating movement into her patients’ lives. In addition to naturopathic medicine, Dr. Harrigan is also a licensed acupuncturist and Chinese herbal medicine practitioner and is looking forward to providing these modalities in the context of integrative cancer care.
Brooke Waldersen, ND
The newest member to the Seattle Integrative Oncology team, Dr. Brooke Waldersen is currently undergoing her two-year naturopathic oncology residency, having previously completed a one-year general naturopathic medicine residency at the Bastyr Center for Natural Health. Dr. Waldersen received her bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and business from Baylor University. She later earned her doctorate in naturopathic medicine from Sonoran University of Health Sciences. She has always had a passion for nutrition and exercise and the importance of this as a foundation of health and the roles it plays in the context of integrative cancer care.

Chris Lower
Chris brings over ten years’ experience in management and small business operations to Seattle Integrative Oncology. Chris also has a tremendous passion for helping patients navigate the complexities of cancer care and treatment and demonstrated this daily during his time as the former Coordinator for Providence Regional Cancer System’s Integrative Medicine Program in Olympia. As SIO’s Clinic Operations Manager, Chris works with both our doctors and front desk staff to increase the efficiency of the practice while also strategizing ways to improve patient satisfaction. A 2014 graduate of the University of Washington, Chris is currently working on completing a Master of Science and doctorate through Portland State University’s Earth, Environment, and Society Program.
